For the creation of the user interface of 'The Lost Legends of Redwall' I wanted to create a warm and inviting environment. I imagined you were someone who had just wandered into an old private library of a mystical adventurer. You peruse his shelf of memorabilia in the warmth of inviting candlelight.
Subtle parallaxing, a gentle breeze against the ivy and the flicker of a lone candle all came together to provide a warm and inviting user interface. I added items in front of the frames to convey the subjects of the stories within.
If the stories flowed side to side, that left up and down for the store page and settings page. I imagined a fun little bookshelf of moving parts and sliding panels. I'd have loved to have spent more time and added little gears/ropes to really sell it.
The ingame menus continue with the 'bookshelf' aesthetic. Collected items are revealed much like an advent calendar. The node map of your journey appears as a sketch you fill in.
